How the British lost?
Howe had a Hudson strategy, but he abandoned his strategy because Howe wanted to support Burgoyne as he moved South and when Howe supported Burgoyne at Saratoga that’s when the first concise of victory of the war. The result was the defeat of Burgoyne at Saratoga and Howe’s action in 1777 contributed to the loss of the entire British army because of the fact he wanted to support Burgoyne.
Burgonye's plan to divide and conquer failed because the other two parties, ( General St Leger and General Howe along with their troops) did not all meet up at the same place at the right time. Burgoyne and his army hade to overtake Albany without their support which hurt the plan to divide-and-conquer. Burgoyne's army had ran out of food. Their plan to raid local farmers failed because the New York farmers had burned their crops to keep the English from getting their food. It is estimated that 6,000 British soldiers were captured as prisoners after this battle. The Loyalist had lost 1,700 soldiers. The Battle of Saratoga is known as the turning point of the war.
